GENERAL SUMMARY

The Associate Director of Digital Strategy is responsible for the day-to-day leadership of digital strategy initiatives and owns specific, high-priority and high-visibility projects. They are expected to identify opportunities to improve the strategy discipline within the agency by bringing new ideas, approaches and frameworks that support the ongoing evolution of the agency’s Strategy Toolkit. They actively mentor and guide more junior strategy team members with hands-on support and guidance.

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Social: Oversee and support the overall social strategy for client social channels by working with project and program owners to ensure initiatives measurably connect with client and organizational objectives, specifically across different activation types (paid / organic, customer support, shopping, etc.). Provide input, support and guidance to junior team members when defining overall social program challenges, opportunities, objectives and strategies.

 

Brand & Campaigns: Lead brand and product campaign strategy development for clients. Develop effective, creative brand and campaign strategies rooted in powerful insights. Write and contribute to creative briefing materials, define key digital channel roles, objectives and KPIs with Planning and Media team peers. Guide and mentor more junior team members.

 

Owned Properties: Responsible for the creation of effective, unique and brand-specific approaches to owned digital properties through hands-on work as well as team mentorship, guidance and facilitation. Create optimization and enhancement road maps for client websites, apps, social and other owned properties that incorporate knowledge of user needs and behaviors, best practices and respect the underlying technology and service capabilities of the architecture. Organize and lead collaboration sessions among different agency and client disciplines, including client marketing and in-house technology, web analysts, UX, media, technology and creative.

 

New Business: Help run new business pitches, including development of pitch presentations.

 

Communication: Be the strategic lead on assigned projects, ensuring that strategy is taken into account throughout creative ideation, development and production. Identify and proactively resolve issues as appropriate with agency counterparts.

 

Day to Day

  • Own and lead projects on the business they work on.
  • Write, contribute to and present campaign briefing materials, including writing creative briefs and channel strategies
  • Independently craft product and brand positioning briefs
  • Define key digital channel roles, objectives and KPIs on campaigns and for owned properties.
  • Attend and contribute to other strategy team work streams, including research design, focus groups, product clinics, surveys, brand tracking, etc.
  • Cultivate and communicate a deep understanding of the current and potential audience for brands and products, and identify potential areas for new learning
  • Define the role of different media for brands and specific campaigns
  • Develop cohesive owned property strategies and product roadmaps (creative as well as assignment briefs).

EXPERIENCE

5+ years of Digital Strategy, Planning, UX or related advertising experience

SKILLS

  • Exceptional written communication and presentation skills and the ability to simplify complex ideas for team members and clients of levels.
  • A great presenter on one’s feet and on paper, capable of inspiring creative team members and clients. Able to hold a room.
  • Charismatic and confident creative thinker who can develop strong, distinctive points of view
  • Capable of effectively and proactively collaborating with variety of agency and client stakeholders on a daily basis.
  • Capable of identifying the real business problem that brand and communications can address
  • Be able to craft compelling and focused creative campaign briefs and precise measurement strategies
  • Plan, facilitate and create reports on client collaboration sessions
  • Organize, facilitate and analyze research (Surveys, Focus groups, Stakeholder interviews, etc.), including ad hoc research, qualitative and quantitative, as required.
  • High ability to synthesize research learnings to paint the full picture
  • High ability to develop insights and stories from qualitative and quantitative data
  • High understanding of the role that different media plays for brands in different advertising contexts
  • Fluency with web & social analytics
  • Fluency with brand tracking and advertising metrics
  • High familiarity with personalization and A/B testing processes and procedures from a strategy perspective, including segmentation, test design and content strategy.
  • Demonstrated ability to continuously expand and enhance personal strategic skillset through focused research and collaboration.
  • Understand advertising culture, awards, award types, and awards criteria, and write compelling award submissions
  • Possess the demeanor and desire to build strong relationships with creative teams and other discipline leads, including and especially Account, Media, UX and Data Strategy
  • Capable of building strong, trusting relationships with more junior team members by providing thoughtful guidance, support and demonstrating mastery of key strategic domains.

EDUCATION

Degree from an accredited university or college is strongly preferred.
